Meet Brian Wilson of Morel Dogs

Hello! I’m Brian Wilson, and I’ve been training dogs for over a decade. My journey began with obedience training, where I honed my skills and developed a deep understanding of canine behavior. I studied at the Academy of Canine Communications.  I also have achieved silver and gold levels in the NePoPo® Training Programs, which helped refine my training methods and knowledge.

A few years ago, I stumbled upon a gap in the world of foraging: I couldn’t find any resources to train dogs to hunt morel mushrooms. That’s when I decided to combine my love of mushrooms and my passion for dog training. I set out to make this my niche; thus, Morel Dogs was born!

Since then, I’ve trained multiple dogs to successfully find morel mushrooms, including my own beloved dogs: Prairie, Winston, Beth, Walker, Lily, Jake, and Red. Watching these dogs work and use their natural instincts to find morels has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

But this course is more than just about mushrooms—it’s about bonding with your dog. I love watching my dogs thrive in the field, and I want you to experience that same joy and connection with your own dog. It’s about creating a meaningful relationship while enjoying the great outdoors together.

This course is all about helping you and your dog work together as a team to find morel mushrooms. Let’s get started!

Brian Wilson

Owner and Head Trainer

I’m Brian Wilson, the guy behind Morel Dogs—where the dogs work hard and I pretend I’m in charge. Born and raised in Central IL, I’ve been chasing dogs and dreams my whole life. In 2021, Winston and I decided to teach dogs how to hunt morels. Fast-forward to now: we did it, it works, and we made an online course so you can skip the trial and error (and the ‘why is my dog eating sticks again?’ phase).

Senior Advisor to the Morel Squad

Hi I’m Winston, I’m an 8 year old lab and the original morel dog. Back in my day “2021”, my Dad and I sniffed out the secrets of the morel world. Now that we’ve cracked the code, I’m semi/retired…still supervising of course, while the young pups do the leg work.
